I started my journey with Acorn Life in early 2020 as a new financial advisor, having come from setting up my own wine business in 2008.

Prior to this, I had my own engineering consultancy, and I have found that my former business knowledge and experiences have proved invaluable and easily transferrable into Acorn’s model of building my own financial services business.

As I have been self-employed on and off for over 20 years, I know it can be very challenging and lonely to build a business on your own, so having the support, knowledge and infrastructure of a highly accredited and award-winning company such as Acorn Life makes all the difference.

I have also been a client of Acorn myself for over 25 years, so I knew what the company and its advisors stood for. This was a big part of my decision to move into Financial Services under the Acorn umbrella.

Now that I have a couple of years under my belt, I can honestly say that the customer-focused philosophy and beliefs in Acorn align with my own, and their ‘one-stop shop’ approach to providing all the products and services that my clients could ever need has helped me immensely in building my business from the ground up.

I came from the construction industry into financial services through Acorn Life in 2014. I was a self-employed carpenter for the previous 14 years, doing well, but I was looking for a change.

I knew I still wanted to be my own boss, build my own business and have control over my future. Luckily for me, a friend of mine worked in Acorn then and suggested I look at the Acorn Business opportunity. He felt I would be a good fit with Acorn Life as I’m good with people, and I’m honest and hardworking.

It was quite a big jump from construction to being a Financial Advisor, but I never regretted the move for one second, and it turned out to be the best career move of my life. The support I got from the company from the day I started until this present day is excellent.

Shortly after joining, I started studying for the QFA exams with Acorn’s support, and I have successfully achieved seven MDRT trips to Canada and America – all paid for by Acorn!! Acorn’s business model is about recognition, growth and rewarding its people.

For me, this has meant progressing from building my own business to moving across to become Acorn’s newest branch manager in the Dublin region.

I have been working with Acorn Life DAC since 2018. Before this, I worked for various organisations as an accountant, and I also had my own Property Management Business in Spain for several years.

When the opportunity arose with Acorn Life, I was very reluctant to make the move, the leap. I was so comfortable where I was working, a nice steady 9 to 5 number, with very little pressure and even my company pension in place. So, what changed my mind? When I took the time to reflect on this, I suddenly realised I was just like a robot. I could do my job without thinking about it, and there was nothing different day in and day out. There was no challenge. There was nothing more for me to learn.

Five years on, I can honestly say, moving to Acorn was the correct decision for me. Acorn has provided me with the training and support required to operate my successful financial services business. Working as a tied agent for Acorn Life means I have all the benefits of having my own business but with the constant support, advice, and knowledge that Acorn Life provide.
